Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that predates historical records. It has been practiced in its present form for over 2,000 years. The flow of vital energy is essential to our health and fundamental to the practice of acupuncture. The Chinese call this energy “Chi” or Life Force. Acupuncture is based on the assumption that Chi courses through channels in the body just as rivers flow across the surface of the earth. These channels are called “meridians”. As long as the life force in the body maintains proper balance, there is health. If this balance is disturbed to any degree, discomfort and illness can result.

Acupuncture treatments consist of inserting specialized needles at certain points (acupoints) along these meridians. Nothing is injected or taken out of the body by these needles. They are very fine and many people report that the treatments are virtually painless. Non-needle techniques for acupuncture treatment are also available. Acupuncture is a safe therapy. It is has no side effects nor is it toxic, like many medications can be.

Treatments may incorporate acupuncture, chiropractic, herbs and nutrition. Duration of treatment depends on the nature of the complaint, its severity and how long it has been present.

The National Institute of Health has endorsed acupuncture as treatment for nausea due to pregnancy or chemotherapy. Studies by the NIH also show that acupuncture treatments are very effective in reducing pain in many patients.

Here are just a few of the many conditions the World Health Organization (WHO) considers acupuncture appropriate for: bronchitis, arthritis, stroke, depression, insomnia, high blood pressure, anxiety, PMS, infertility, allergies, sinus infections, sciatica, back pain, migraines, and many more…
